Vintage German stoneware beer stein with pewter lid and abstract cobalt blue decoration

A vintage 1960s/70s German beer stein in traditional grey salt-glazed stoneware and fitted with a hinged pewter lid. The mug is decorated with a striking abstract design of deep cobalt blue flowing bands and finely incised geometric linework. Marked with a 0.5L capacity measure, this half-litre stein combines classic German craftsmanship with a more contemporary decorative style than the traditional hunting and tavern scenes commonly found on earlier examples.
