A beautiful mid-century Oriental lacquer cigarette box dating from around the 1960s, finished in a red lacquer with a mother of pearl inlay decoration depicting birds amongst flowering branches. The lift-off lid reveals a compartmented interior with a removable metal ashtray featuring the traditional Chinese Double Happiness symbol, a motif associated with good fortune, prosperity and celebration. The larger compartment provides storage for cigarettes, cigars, matches, playing cards or other small accessories, making this an attractive and practical decorative piece.
There are some minor surface marks, scuffs and small chips to the lacquer finish, particularly around the edges
