Vintage 1960s textured barkcloth furnishing fabric, attributed to British textile designer Francis Price in the ‘Congleton’ pattern. A fabulous mid-century design in shades of cobalt and mid blue, turquoise and aqua, overlaid with expressive sketch-like black linework. The large-scale abstract composition has an artistic, almost hand-drawn quality, enhanced by the distinctive textured barkcloth ground. A smaller but particularly striking piece of original vintage fabric which would look fantastic framed as mid-century textile art, or could be used for a cushion panel, bag, lampshade or other carefully considered textile project.
Sold as seen – please also see photos for detailed visual description. The design matches documented examples of Francis Price's ‘Congleton’ screen print, although this particular piece does not retain a printed selvedge, so the attribution is based on the pattern rather than a maker's mark. Signs of age/use and raw cut edges (as shown). Approx 19" x 22.5" (48 x 57 cm).
